"Our Catholic Education"

What I like about Saint Jude School
By: Danielle S. - 2007 Graduate

Going to a Catholic school benefits you for the rest of your life. The Catholic faith is instilled in you forever. One advantage is that it becomes a model for you to live by. As you get older, making difficult decisions will be easier, because you have the support of your faith beside you. You become involved in the Christian community. Although the faith is instilled in you, the education is challenging and makes you take on new perspectives. Things like the oratorical prepare you for high school, college, and life.

Aside from school, you make fiends for a lifetime. St. Jude School helps re-enforce the love and caring community God created. The basketball program allows you to interact with other schools in a fun way. The Student Council Allows you to participate in school happenings. St. Jude School has not only proven to strengthen one's faith, but to provide academic excellence.

Catholic School's Week Speeches

Tony C - 2005 Graduate
Hi, I am Tony. I graduated from St. Jude's School last year where I had been a student since kindergarten. I am currently a freshman at Fairfield Prep and I would like to take this opportunity to tell what a Catholic education means to me and my family as this is Catholic School's Week, with the theme of "Character, Compassion, and Values." For all of my years at St. Jude's and now at Fairfield Prep, I have met many students, teachers, and staff full of compassion and understanding. St. Jude was the start of my learning how to be creative. It also strengthened my faith not only in God, but also in me and in the people around me. St. Jude School taught me to be concerned with the world and the people in it. At both St Jude and now at Prep, caring and reaching out to the community is very important to the student body and faculty. A Catholic education inspires me to be active whenever help is needed. Most recently, we were encouraged to participate in collections for food and clothing for the people in the southern states affected by the hurricanes last year.
Within the Catholic school environment, my spiritual growth has become stronger and I have reinforced the strong morals that my parents have taught me. Thanks to my Catholic education I have grown to become a better person, academically, spiritually, and socially. I am grateful for a Catholic education and the teachers there who inspire me to have faith in myself that I can achieve great things.

I would like to thank all the parishioners of St. Jude's and especially Msgr. Sabia, Father Skip and Mrs. Dunn for all of their support and hard work to make this school and parish what it is today. Also, thanks to the faculty and staff for reinforcing the good Christian values that my parents have taught me. Their help and guidance will allow me to be able to excel in school and life. Finally, I would like to thank my parents who have worked very hard and sacrificed to give me a Catholic education. Thank you for making this choice for me.

Lauren L - 2002 Graduate
My name is Lauren and I am currently a senior at St. Joseph High School. I graduated from St. Jude in 2002 and it was there that I first learned the importance of character, compassion, and values. During my early years at St. Jude, I remember sitting in class and one of my teachers saying, “every single person has the potential to do anything they put their mind too.” I thought about what my teacher had said. Honestly, I was too young to know who I wanted to be and what I wanted to become.

Many years have gone by now, but I clearly understand what my teacher was implying. I now realize that this simple phrase means much more than becoming a doctor, teacher, or lawyer. Looking back, I can see that my teacher was trying to make me my own individual by helping me form a strong sense of character.

Any school can tell a child to simply do their best, but by attending a Catholic school, I truly believe I have become a better person. Thanks to my Catholic education, I have grown spiritually, academically, and socially. St. Jude has prepared me by teaching simple Catholic beliefs that has lead me to a successful High School Career. I have the trust, respect, and friendship of my peers, along with responsibility and the privilege of attending a Catholic School.

Our Catholic school teachers not only teach the Catholic values but also live them. They live them by their words, actions, by living compassionate lives, by presenting strong moral characters, and always by their example of living by our Christian values.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Msgr. Sabia, Father Skip, and Mrs. Dunn for their support and all they do to help the mission of Catholic education. I would like to thank my parents for the all the sacrifices they have made, their unconditional love, and the continuous support they give as I continue on with my education. But I would also like to thank you, the parishioners who continue to support Catholic education, and with this I would like to invite you all to the St. Jude Open House this Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 9 – 12.

Krystyna M - 2004 Graduate
Hi, my name is Krystyna. I graduated from St. Jude's School in 2004 where I was a student since kindergarten. My sister Tiffany is in third grade at St. Jude's and I am currently a freshman at St. Joe's High School in Trumbull. I'd like to take this opportunity, as we celebrate Catholic Schools Week with its theme "Faith in Every Student.Catholic Schools", to describe why a catholic education has been so important for me and my family.

Throughout my nine years at St. Jude's and currently at St. Joe's, I have found a community full of caring and supportive teachers, students, and staff. St. Jude was for me the foundation that thought me to think, to learn and to be creative. It also strengthened my faith so that I could grow further in my love of God and family, and my concern for the world around me. I was taught that everyone is welcome and has unique qualities and talents. At both schools, service to others and the community around us is always reinforced. The student body easily becomes active when help is necessary like taking up collections for the tsunami victims.

Within the catholic schools environment, my spiritual growth has deepened and I have been able to reinforce the strong moral values my parents instilled in me. Thanks to my Catholic education I have grown spiritually, academically, and socially. I am grateful that catholic schools have faith that every student can achieve. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the parishioners here and especially to Msgr. Sabia, Father Skip and Mrs. Dunn for all they do to help support the mission of catholic education. The faculty and staff along with my parents have instilled Christian values in me and given me a wonderful base as I further my education. Their work and guidance is something that I truly am grateful for. Lastly, I would like to thank my parents who work very hard and have made many sacrifices so that I can continue my education. Thank you.

Kellie M - 2001 Graduate
Good Morning! My name is Kellie and I am a senior at St. Joseph high school. I'm here this morning to share with you how important a catholic education has been for me.

It's not easy being a kid, much less a teenager these days, but going to a school where Christian values are encouraged has taught me that prayer and a sincere belief that God is always with me will help me make good choices in my life, and thus far, this has proven to be true.

I attended St. Jude School from the 3rd through 8th grades. The teachers here not only challenged me cademically and spiritually, but made the transition from elementary school to high school as smooth as possible.

In high school, I found that while other kids were struggling with their spirituality and faith, I had such a strong background coming from St. Jude, that I could focus more on a deeper understanding of it. As I approach the end of my Catholic education, I realize how lucky I am to have the foundation I need to take with me and spread my faith in college, and in all my future endeavors.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell my parents how much I appreciate the sacrifices they have made to send me to Catholic school and for being so strong in their faith. I would also like to thank Msgr. Sabia for providing our community with such a wonderful place for the children to grow and learn.
And to Fr. Skip, thank you for taking the time for all you do for the youth of our community.
