As Librarian at St. Jude School, I see all the children K-8 once a week. Children are instructed in the Dewey Decimal System and other methods of library classification. Books are checked out regularly and many projects related to literature are accomplished in a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere. The library facilities are child-friendly with low shelves and colorful displays which are changed regularly. Children's work is displayed to reinforce the love of reading and readers' self esteem. The library program supports classroom and writing through vocabulary work, writing projects, book reports, and reviews. Story hours and video presentations add to the enjoyment of literature for the younger set. After school I share responsibility for the Book Nook Literature Club. We have read many exciting novels with the members of the club, over delicious snacks in a fun atmosphere. As resource teacher I provide support to our excellent reading program. I test students for placement in reading groups and advise teachers as to strategies needed for improvement. I also do diagnostic and remedial work on an individual and small-group basis. At times, I help teachers in the classrooms with special programs and projects or individuals the classes
