My classes are conducted with much discussion between teacher and students. Students are encouraged to take notes and ask questions. I try to establish a close bond with my students while still maintaining a teacher/student relationship. I have found that being fair and non-judgemental goes a long way with eighth graders. Creating an atmosphere of trust and caring helps make eighth grade fun and challenging for all of us.
Creative activities and projects are an integral part of Social Studies, Science, and Literature. In Social Studies the emphasis is on man and his relationship to the world and other people. We learn how all actions have effects on society, sometimes good and sometimes bad. In Science, the emphasis is on the physical world and how it operates. Students learn why things happen and what happened in the past to shape our earth. Literature for the Eighth grade is exposure to several of the great books and writers of English and American literature. In addition, Literature is tied into major events and periods in history.
Students in Grade Eight enjoy a year filled with many special events and privileges. With this comes added responsibility and the awareness that they are heading for high school and need the necessary skills to be successful. We strive to treat eighth graders in a more adult manner and expect them in turn to show their new-found maturity. We hope this last year at our school will be a memorable one.
