Student Accomplishments "Did You Know"

  • Students consistently score better than 90 percentile on standardized testing thus distinguishing St Jude School as a Blue Ribbon School nominee. According to the United States Department of Education and NCLB, our school now ranks in the top 10% of all schools (public and private) nationwide!
  • Our students have qualified for the state level competitions in the National Geography Bee four times in the past seven years at Central Connecticut State University while many have gone on to regional and state competitions for the Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee.
  • One of our students went on to the state level competition for the Modern Woodmen of the World Speech Contest and placed 2nd as a sixth grader.
  • Our graduates gain admission to private and diocesan secondary schools such as Fairfield Preparatory School, St. Joseph’s High School, Notre Dame Fairfield, Lauralton Hall, and Sacred Heart Academy.
  • 90% of our students who have attended Fairfield Preparatory School and St. Joseph High School earn GPA’s between 94 through 97.
  • Many of our graduates are in the top 5% of their graduating classes and regularly make the honor rolls.
  • Statistically over 90 percent of our graduates attend college.  Many at such prestigious institutions including Fairfield University, Villanova College, Stonehill College, Marist College, and the University of Dayton.
  • One of the top students attending Lauralton Hall is our graduate and scored over 2300 on the SAT. 
  • At St. Joseph High School many of our graduates have taken on leadership roles in such positions as president of Student Council and the National Honor Society.
  • Beginning in the 3rd grade our students are eligible to be candidates for entry into the John Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth Program.  Since 2005, 35%- 41% of our students have received the distinction of being nominated.  To be nominated for this achievement program, they needed to achieve a ranking of 95% or better on their Iowa Tests. 
  • One of our graduates was crowned the Barnum Festival Queen.
  • A member of the Class of 2000 received an $80,000 scholarship to Fairfield University for four years.
  • A fifth grader received an Academic Excellence Award as part of the 2005 Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration “Recognition of Connecticut Hispanic Students in Academics” program which was hosted by the Connecticut National Guard, the U.S. Postal Service and Eastern Connecticut State University. 
  • One of our graduates published a comical book on friendship, teamwork and humor in life during her freshman year in high school entitled, The Colas.  She started this book as an eighth grader.
  • Several graduates have qualified as national Merit Scholarship Finalists.
  • Several students represented our school when former President Bill Clinton visited Connecticut to thank students for tsunami collections which raised enough dollars to build a model 1,500 pupil school in Sri Lanka, an area severely hit by the tsunami of 2005. 
  • Students receive scholarships yearly from both Notre Dame and St. Joseph High Schools.  To qualify the student’s needed to achieve a score in the 97% or above on the High School Entrance test given at the individual high schools.
  • In 2003 and 2007 the St. Jude Boys’ JV basketball team won the New England CYO JV Schools Division Championship.
